BYD’s luxury sub-brand, Denza, has unveiled its flagship model, the Z9 GT, a high-performance shooting brake that aims to rival European stalwarts like Porsche and BMW. Available in both electric and plug-in hybrid variants, the Z9 GT combines cutting-edge technology with striking design and impressive performance.

Design and Dimensions

Designed under the guidance of former Audi and Alfa Romeo designer Wolfgang Egger, the Z9 GT features a sleek shooting brake layout reminiscent of the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo. Measuring 5.18 meters in length, 1.86 meters in height, and 1.95 meters in width, with a wheelbase of 3.1 meters, the Z9 GT offers a commanding presence on the road. Its aerodynamic lines and aggressive stance contribute to its sporty yet elegant appeal.

Performance and Powertrain

The Z9 GT is available in two powertrains: the all-electric version and the Super DM plug-in hybrid.

  • All-Electric Version: Equipped with a 101 kWh battery and three electric motors—308 hp front motor and two 322 hp rear motors—the electric variant delivers a combined output of 952 hp. It accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.4 seconds, with a range of approximately 391 miles (CLTC).
  • Plug-in Hybrid (Super DM): This variant combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine with three electric motors, producing a total of 858 hp and 834 lb-ft of torque. It achieves 0-62 mph in 3.6 seconds, offering a balance of performance and efficiency. citeturn0search1

Technology and Features

The Z9 GT is equipped with advanced technology to enhance driving dynamics and convenience. Notably, it features rear-wheel steering, allowing the rear wheels to turn in the opposite direction of the front wheels for improved maneuverability. This enables the vehicle to perform tight U-turns and navigate narrow spaces with ease. Additionally, the Z9 GT offers a 17.3-inch central infotainment screen, Nappa leather upholstery, and a crystal gear shifter, emphasizing luxury and innovation. citeturn0news15

Interior and Comfort

Inside, the Z9 GT offers a luxurious cabin with premium materials and attention to detail. The spacious interior provides ample legroom and comfort for all passengers. The integration of advanced technology ensures a seamless and intuitive user experience, while the use of high-quality materials underscores the vehicle’s premium status.

Pricing and Availability

While official pricing for the European market has yet to be announced, the Z9 GT is expected to be competitively priced compared to its European counterparts. In China, the vehicle is priced between €42,600 and €53,000, depending on the variant and specifications. citeturn0search16

Conclusion

The Denza Z9 GT marks a significant step for BYD in establishing its presence in the luxury EV segment. With its powerful performance, advanced technology, and elegant design, the Z9 GT offers a compelling alternative to traditional European luxury vehicles. As Denza expands its offerings in Europe, the Z9 GT stands as a testament to the brand’s commitment to innovation and excellence in the electric vehicle market.
